Katraj Snake Park was constructed in 1986, near Pune on Pune-Satara Highway at Katraj. The park was built to house some of the most frightful and dreaded reptiles on earth like snakes, crocodiles etc. All forms of snake big, small, poisonous like King Cobra find their home in the park. The park is one of the popular and most liked tourist attractions in Pune. People especially kids love to explore the park on their visit to Pune. Katraj Snake park also offers shelter to birds and turtles apart from reptiles.
The park also homes a library that furnishes all the necessary and intriguing information about these deadly creatures. The motive behind the construction of this park was to spread awareness and to eliminate the prevalent myths about these, otherwise apprehensive species. A zoo has also been added to the park making it all the more attractive and a must see site. Every year during Nag Panchmi lot of programs are held in the park to pay tribute to the serpents (as they are considered God in Hindu mythology). The Snake Park is open for public everyday from 10 am to 5:30 pm.
