Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum was built by Baba Dinkar Kelkar in th year 1962 and was later donated to the government of Maharashtra in 1975. The museum houses age old handicrafts and exhibits collected from all over the country. The artifacts are so exclusive and stunning that they compel you to visit the museum. The museum was originally built in the memory of Baba Kelkar's son who died at an early age of seven. Baba Kelkar wanted to to something outstanding (as a token of love and remembrance) for his deceased son. And that is how he came up with the idea of starting a Museum. Baba Kelkar museum proudly stands at Baji Rao Road in the heart of Pune city and stuffs a variety of Paintings, nut crackers, Ganpati's guns, carved palace doors, pottery and a number of musical instruments which are reminiscent of the Mughals and Marathas style of art.
‘Mastani Mahal’ which was reconstructed in the museum is a major attraction here. The museum has different sections at different floors. The ground floor section exhibits 18 th century household vessels made of terracotta, copper and brass and brought from Kerala, Gujrat and Maharashtra while the first floor section comprises of murtis of Shri Ganesha, Shiva and Parvati with paintings showing scenes from Ramayana and paintings in manuscript. The museum also houses a number of other fascinating items that will certainly take you by storm.
