Situated 25 kms away east from Pune on the banks of the river Indrayani, Alandi city is mainly known for housing the samadhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar, a famous saint of Maharashtra. Dnyaneshwar spent a few years of his life at the Alandi city and motivated the whole of the state to worship Lord Panduranga. According to historical records, the temple of Sant Dyaneshwar was built in the year 1570. Tourist and pilgrims come to Alandi city to visit the temple of Sant Dnyaneshwar, where his Samadhi is positioned. The temple is encircled with natural beauty and the Ghat behind the temple is especially very wonderful.
One of the main tourist interest places of the city is the Palakhi festival, celebrated in the month of Ashadh. Many tourists march for 150 km, from Alandi to Pandharpur, to take part in this festival. Located on the banks of Indrayani River, the city has a number of other attractions also. Some of them are Muktai temple, Ram temple, Krishna Temple, Math of Swami Hariharendra, Vitthal-Rakhumai temple, etc.
The Samadhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar is positioned in a temple at Alandi, which is dedicated to the saint only. To pay the homage to the saint, devotees come from various parts of India. Apart from being valued by the neighboring people of the state, the temple also boasts of picturesque beauty and popuar among the people of entire country.
Besides the being abode to the temple, Alandi city also serves as the spot of the Palakhi festival, celebrated every year in the month of Ashadh. People from all over the state as well as the country come to participate in this festival.
