Perched on top of a hill, Bhuleshwar Temple is dates back to the time of the Pandavas. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, temple is located at a distance of 50 km from the Pune city and was constructed in the 13th century. The temple was originally built to serve as a castle called Mangalgadh, though; it was later transformed into a Lord Shiva temple. The walls of the Bhuleshwar temple stand decorated with complicated carvings, right from its doorway.
The temple of Bhuleshwar is noteworthy not only from structural design point of view, but also from the mythological point of view. It is said that here goddess Parvati danced for Lord Shiva and thereafter, both of them went to Kailas and got married. The temple gets very crowded in the month of Shrawan, particularly at the time of Mahashivratri. Its fine location as Jejuri on south, Purandar on southwest and Dhavaleshwar on west also makes this place an important destination for tourist.
