Jejuri Temple is located in the Jejuri town, which lies to the southeast of the Pune city of Maharashtra. The town is recognized for being the spot of one of the respected temples in the state, known as the Khandobachi Jejuri. This temple is devoted to Khandoba, also identified as Mhalsakant or Malhari Martand. Khandoba is considered as the 'God of Jejuri' and is held in great respect by the Dhangars, one of the oldest tribes in India.
Jejuri Temple is located atop a small hill and because of this elevation; visitor has to climb a series of about 200 steps to reach the sanctum sanctorum. Since the rise is not too difficult and offers astonishing views of Saswad and Dive Ghat, one doesn't even come to know when the 200 steps come to an end. Jejuri Khandoba Temple can be simply divided into two distinct parts - the Mandap and Gabhara.
The enshrined idol of Shri Khandoba inside the temple is simply striking. Jejuri Temple houses three weapons inside namely-, a sword, a damaru and a paral. They are very beautiful and also have historical significance attached to them. On the occasion of Dusshera, a sword rivalry is organized every year at the temple. The individual, who lifts the sword of the temple high up, for the utmost time, is declared the champion.
